What is llms.txt?
llms.txt is a small markdown file at the root of a site that tells AI assistants what the site is and which pages matter. It follows a simple convention (llmstxt.org): an H1 with the brand name, a blockquote summary, then grouped links with short descriptions.
Example of the structure this generator produces:
# example.com > example.com is a digital marketing agency with 92 documented pages. ## Tools - [Domain Rating Checker](https://example.com/dr-checker/): Check the DR of any domain instantly. - [Spam Score Checker](https://example.com/spam-score-checker/): Find risky backlinks fast. ## Pages - [About Us](https://example.com/about-us/): Who we are and how we work.

Is llms.txt worth doing? The honest answer
Yes as hygiene, no as a growth hack. Google's own AI-optimisation guidance says llms.txt does not affect Search rankings or AI Overviews, and large studies have found no measurable citation lift from adding the file. Anthropic recommends it, and assistants that do fetch it get a cleaner, self-described view of your site.
What actually drives AI mentions is different: pages the AI crawlers can reach (no 429/403 bot blocks), quotable factual content, FAQPage schema, and third-party mentions of your brand. Measure the first two with our free AI Visibility Checker, and audit the rest with the free SEO audit tool.
Where to publish it: the file must be at the root — https://yourdomain.com/llms.txt. A larger companion file at /llms-full.txt can hold the full content of those pages for tools that want more.
